Funk Drum Pattern

Funk drums live in the 16ths. The hi-hat plays steady 16th notes, the snare adds quiet ghost notes around the backbeat on 2 and 4, and the kick plays syncopated figures that lock with the bass line.

Closed hatevery 8th + 8 ghost1, 1&, 2, 2&, 3, 3&, 4 + 8 ghost

Tip: Ghost notes should be barely audible (velocity around 30–50). If you can clearly hear them, they are too loud.
